A smart choice for first time visitors to London were the London Pass and Oyster Card, which we used to navigate the Tube and the Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus and to enter some attractions. Since we only had three full days and we had friends to meet while in London, we didnt make full use of the London Pass as much as we could have. However, it worked well getting around. We especially enjoyed the Thames cruise, which, by the way, can be used several times, but within a 24 hour period. We were happy that we had purchased the London Pass with the Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus and the Oyster Card with the Thames River tour prior to travelling, but found it somewhat difficult for first timers trying to locate where to exchange the voucher. And, in order to do that, we had to spend money on the Tube just to locate that voucher exchange kiosk which was located in a small underground shop about 30 minutes from our hotel. Perhaps having more than one location to exchange the voucher would have been more convenient. Once we found it, however, we were fine. I would recommend the London Pass and the Oyster Card for anyone travelling to London for the first time.

Before buying the pass check to see if what attractions you can in the time you have. NOT always the best value

The idea of hitting numerous tourism venues along the Thames sounded perfect for my wife and I on our first visit to London. Implementation of the concept left a little to be desired however. Our particular vouchers were only redeemable at the tourism center across from Garrick Theater. That happened to be a bit of hike from our hotel, but no complaints - that's tourism. Once we converted our vouchers to the London Pass card exactly as pictured, we found that any of the 60 included attractions we visited readily recognized and honored the passes for admission In some cases you had to stand in line to show your pass and get a specific ticket to the site and other cases you just showed or scanned your card to go straight in. The issue we ran into was one of simple logistics. The passes we bought covered two days. What was not made at all clear is that the Hop On / Hop Off bus blimey, I mean coach pass needed to travel between the various attractions was only good for one day. In fairness, the first Golden Tour agent that helped us did offer a second day bus pass for 8 Sterling Pounds each about 20 US. The other big surprise is that the London traffic periodically gets so bad that even the tour busses can't access certain routes to the various locations that are covered by the pass. So you might be on your way to the Tower of London and the bus pulls over half way through and there is an announcement saying sorry, due to traffic constraints this bus now heading directly to the London Eye not included in the London Pass BTW. So, although the Golden Tour employees were friendly, professional and helpful, my overall rating is low because we simply didn't get to visit many attractions.
