The Montmartre is a popular district of Paris. Some top attractions are located here. The place is renowned as the artistic quarter, boasting unique mood, numerous shopping opportunities and engaging nightlife. The area is close to the downtown and can be reached on foot or by metro.

The Place du Tertre, the Moulin Rouge and the Sacred Heart Basilica are the top attractions. Au Lapin Agile and Moulin de la Galette are some good places to hang out. You will enjoy walking the narrow alleys of the Montmartre and buying souvenirs and paintings. The neighborhood is also famous for performances in its bars.

The Montmartre was a notorious neighborhood in the past where even the policemen were reluctant to come. Artists, who belonged to a low social class, could afford to live only here. Thus, they created works of art at the bars and the Place du Tertre. Feel free to order a portrait of you in the square.

As you wander around, you can come by busts of Saint Denis and Dalida, the unhappy star of the show business of the last century.

Absolutely astounding architecture and gorgeous views of Paris. The little shopping district is my new favorite area in Paris, hands down.

Terrifying experience. How can anybody grab a tourist by force, threaten and force to give money that too in a BROAD DAY LIGHT with hundreds of people around. This is one of famous places in Paris and it is left with no security to the tourist. Not just us but we have seen so many tourist being rounded up by 5-6 men who are extremely intimidating and demand money. Paris police should do something and stop this from happening.

Walking up to the cathedral is ok. It has a nice view of the city and the surrounding neighborhood is nice. A lot of artists/paintings and classic restaurants that tourists will enjoy

A stunning view at the top and a magnificent church. It is a pity that our experience was marred by groups of men forcefully trying to tie bracket around our wrist.

This time we only had one day in Paris. If you don´t know Paris yet, this is in my eyes one of the must dos. Walk there from a station not so far away, walk up hill and get to see what this lively neighbourhood is like. Despite the line to get in the church, it took us almost no time. Worth going inside. Once outside, sitting on the stairs and having your brought along piknik whilst looking upon the city, some street artist making music and just watching people is it. A stroll on the sides and maybe some nice snack and drinks in one of the numerous restaurants on the side streets on the hill should also be in. Prepare for people on the streets, many little touristy shops and painters on the Place du Tertre. On such a short trip, this is part of what you should see.

Amazing views of the city below. Wonderfully maintained quarter of the city with history everywhere you look. Not to mention the Basilique itself which is astoundingly beautiful. See the artists' markets. Taste fare from the many bistros and restaurants. See Paris' lights from such a wonderful perspective. Go to the museums. Climb the stairs! I ran up these on a winter's morning and ALMOST made it up the whole way before I almost dropped. A serious must see for anyone wanting to see Paris even at a glance.
