The Englischer Garten (German: [ˈʔɛŋlɪʃɐ ˈɡaʁtn̩], English Garden) is a large public park in the centre of Munich, Bavaria, stretching from the city centre to the northeastern city limits. It was created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson (1753–1814), later Count Rumford (Reichsgraf von Rumford), for Prince Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria. Thompson's successors, Reinhard von Werneck (1757–1842) and Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell (1750–1823), advisers on the project from its beginning, both extended and improved the park. With an area of 3.7 km2 (1.4 sq mi) (370 ha or 910 acres), the Englischer Garten is one of world's largest urban public parks. The name refers to its English garden form of informal landscape, a style popular in England from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century and particularly associated with Capability Brown.

Wonderful park in the heart of Munich. Went there for a little rest and enjoyed it a lot. It's peaceful and quite here, perfect if you wanna escape the noise of the city for a bit. Next to the water you'll be able to watch the duck, geese or trout of you not just wanna nap

Really big green park with a lot of different landmarks. You can really spend hours here for your visit. I recommend to bring your swimwear with you if it's summer.

I loved this place so much, I went here twice in one day! It’s so huge you could get lost in here! Lovely place for walks, biking or just lying down. It’s a great place for pets! I was especially delighted by the man made river. The water flows pretty fast in certain areas, but you can still swim in it! It was fantastic to watch. There is also a special place for surfing, it was amazing! I would recommend this place for anybody.

Absolutely amazing park with huge trees that hang over the trails and shade the trails. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to explore the vast grounds and take in the area sadly it started to rain before we got to explore the whole area, but we did have time to enjoy a great meal in the beer garden. The park also has a canal that is popular for swimming and an area popular with surfers(not really something we expected to see in a large inland city such as Munich. This park is a wonderful, relaxing place and on of the best parts of a beautiful city

This is a very large garden with many places to sit and enjoy sports or a picnic. There are not many flower arrangements and nothing of note but there are many nice walks. If you enjoy swimming or would like to make use of the artificial wave system, be sure to bring a swim kit. A large and sociable area with places to eat, listen to music and swim or just dip your feet into the river water.

I would recommend for those coming to Munich to visit this English Garden. The name is rather confusing for a garden which is located in Germany rather than in England. The landscape gardening of the garden is said to follow England style. The English Garten is really huge and you will appreciate walking between a little lake full of lovely ducks and a river where swans are elegantly swimming. Do make sure that you see the river surfers which is located at the south of the garden. The lovely garden is so much more than a garden. There is a lake, beer garden and small river in addition to the miles of walking/running paths. It is a wonderful place to spend some time enjoying the sites or just doing nothing but watching the people walk by. Make sure that you wear comfortable shoe as this garden is even larger than the New York Central Park!

Holy smokes, do yourself a favour and visit this spectacular oasis in the centre of Munich. Rivers and lakes flow through this gigantic park with huge expansive greens and miles of walkway (don't be spooked by nude sunbathers by the river). The park is dotted by traditional Bavarian restaurants and is frequented by both locals (who dress up nice in their Trachten on Sundays) and tourists. Lunch at the Chinese Tower is often accompanied by an orchestra. There are boat and bike rentals available.

So fun to come here and watch the surfers. You can always sun bathe in the park or play games. When you get hot you can jump in the river! (Though it is not advised) if you visit Munich plan a midday stroll through here at the minimum. You will not regret it!

Very good park just a short walk from the Old Town. Large boating pond with pedal boats for hire. The park stretches for 5km end to end so plenty if space to walk or cycle. Open spaces for games and paths amongst trees and shrubs. Also horse drawn carriage rides. Roughly in the middle is a beer garden with a variety of food stalls and plenty of open air seating. Try and see the skills of the surf boarders surfing the standing wave just inside one of the park entrance. An excellent place for a slower paced day away from the busy city streets.

I am in love with this park. You could spend the whole day enjoying it and possibly I will end up doing that more often than expected this summer.
