Fisherman's Bastion

Szentharomsag ter, Budapest

Fisherman's Bastion (Halászbástya) is a terrace in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style situated on the Buda bank of the Danube, on the Castle hill in Budapest. It was designed and built between 1895 and 1902. From the towers and the terrace a panoramic view exists of Danube, Margaret Island, Pest to the east and the Gellért Hill. The Buda side castle wall was protected by the fishermen's guild and this is the reason why it was called fishermen's Bastion. It is a viewing terrace, with many stairs and walking paths. A bronze statue of Stephen I of Hungary mounted on a horse.

I did not know the name of this place until I write a review on google map. They called this Fisherman's Bastion. At first glance, it looks like a castle to me. When I step on, I was amazed. There is a stairway going down. Hmmm.... Time to walk and explore what's in here. Alas, finally a cafe to warm you. 5 stars 5 stars!

This is definitely a top view in Budapest! The hop on hop off bus stops here and it is also and easy $7-8 trip on a small car if you can make it. Definitely a view you will not forget! We went during the summer so a bit hot but the view will take care of anything.

One of the most beautiful places I visited in Budapest. There is so much to see and do up there. A lot of history is in there along side city library and museum. View from there is top notch. You can enter in the tower and in the church, but you have predetermined tours (every hour I think) for tower so be sure to buy a ticket earlier because lines can get little big. They also have cable car and price is very cheap. But be sure to change the money in Pest center because exchange rate in Buda is ridiculously rude.

A beautiful place with a great history behind it. This is a must visit when you are in Budapest. It's equally beautiful in the winter or summer. It's a great spot to take some memorable photos from a wonderful city. It's a good stop when you are touring this part of town. Combine it with the church nearby and the castle a bit further down the road.

Great architecture and views of the city. To get on the top level, you have to buy a ticket (though we never saw a ticket booth), so tourists are busy elbowing each other in high season to get a view. The area was VERY crowded, and full of tourists, restaurants, and souvenir stands, so much so that photos were basically impossible. I would love to go again at like 6 AM, and take pictures and enjoy the place before the tourist masses descend. All the beautiful pictures I have seen of it and from it are not what I got to experience just to to sheer busyness. So plan appropriately.

One of the most beautiful places. I have been to. Simple fact during the summer it can get very hot so take precautions. It cost 10-15 euros to climb the wall. And still you can walk around the area entrance is free. You will be able to see the guards changing. Their stations as well. Don't eat gelato from there it's by far the worst I have eaten.

You have to go here if you’re in Budapest. It has one of the most unique churches I’ve ever seen (there is an entry fee). It’s insanely colorful and detailed outside and the exterior roof has a complex and very colorful tiling pattern. The main lookout point on the bastion also costs a small fee (you can get a package deal with the church though), but if you don’t want to pay it there’s plenty of smaller lookout points throughout the square.

My favourite place in Budapest. Always reminds me of the LOTR 😁 we went there during the daytime and it was so beautiful that we had to go back for sunset. Even if you don't really see the sunset, the colours are amazing and the whole architecture just looks magical in that golden light. We were lucky enough to also have an elderly guitar and violin duo who made this trip memorable! Do not miss it!!!

Gorgeous building. Not as historic as I thought, but still worth checking out. Incredibly touristy, and as mentioned you do have to pay to get up to the upper decks, however if you go late enough in the day it's free. The trade-off is later in the day it's full of tourists waiting for sunset. But still worth fighting the crowds.

Such a beautiful place. Would recommend for all in Budapest to see. Looks like a place out of fairytale. Pretty touristy (as in VERY touristy) so maybe come early if that's what you would like. The reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because you have to pay to go up to the balcony to see the full view which is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, you can still get a view but they shouldn't make people pay to access a part of a public place. If you want a better view head up to the citadel on gellert hill for free but do visit this place as the architecture is so unique. There is a souvenir shop as well where we bought really nice postcards.

Beautiful monument, I didn t like the fact that you have to pay for everything. Fisherman’s bastion, the church and the tower have different tickets. Other than this it s beautiful.

Amazing view from this historic view, just look for the free parts, the parts were you need to pay are not worthy. Amazing to watch Pest and the Parlament
