Fantastic place for Maori culture and history. The volcano exhibit was also great, complete with eruption simulation that made me cringe. Not too overwhelming in terms of size. The location is great with views of the city. A terrific rainy day activity, well worth the trip. Free for Auckland residents!

Museum is free for all Auckland residents and has various shows to offer, depending on the month of the year. There is an educational section for children where they can draw and get to know the insects and other species. The dinosaurs part of museum is interesting, followed by volcanoes exhibition and Egyptian mummy

I can't count the amount of times I have been here. But every time feels like a new experience. There is a new attraction here for butterflies so if there is a special little child in your life that adores butterflies this will be the place to go. It's very interactive and knowledgable. The staff are extremely friendly and always willing to help which is great with the kiddies.

Just signed up with My Museum Card which will allow free entry to the museum going forward. If you are Auckland residence then take your utility bill or rates invoice and drivers License to prove your eligibility for this card. I usually visit 5-6 times a year and it's a great place to see and learn historical info and modern development. The new Butterfly exhibition is on at Level 2. The Air New Zealand historical show was one of my favourite. Parking fee for covered car park is reasonable.

The Weird and Wonderful gallery is excellent for kids of all ages. Land and Origins galleries are also great. My 3.5 yr old found the volcano house simulator a bit scary but also had heaps of questions later. Great family day out

Been here many times. Usually good customer service. Very easy to get in even if you're international. Great exhibits. I think my favourite is definitely the volcano exhibit. lots of information, very interactive with the rocks and awesome volcano simulation room! Also, it's in the most beautiful spot in Auckland.

Very informative museum. First, thank you to the staff at the museum. They were friendly and helpful. Second, parents bring your kids. It is very informative and is growing, with more exhibits planned for the near future. Easy to navigate with occasional benches and chairs for you to take a break. It is a large museum with multiple levels. You may not need the break but it is a nice option for those of us who do. At the time I was there, a special butterfly exhibit had recently opened. Another Great exhibit to bring the kids. The museum also includes a library, a cafe, and a coffee bar. All great assets to the building.

As another reviewer mentioned; entry is free for NZ residents but us overseas visitors are charged $25. However this unethical price structure is not unique to this attraction and there is a lot to see so I would say it is worth paying for entry. Spent over 3 hours and could have easily spent longer. Overall a nice place and would recommend to others to see!

Amazing experience I had there... I stayed there for 5 or 6 hours and i totally enjoyed my time... huge section with nature life, war history and everything you want to know about the old times of New Zealand and the modern history as well... I love history so this place was heaven for me... also they have the haka in live events with local natives performing and it was amazing... suck a nice atmosphere there everything inside is wonderful with a good store inside to buy everything you want from souvenirs and books... also the staff is very helpful and they providing anything you need to know about their facilities... you can spend the day there and enjoy the surrounded area outside the park as well... such I nice park there is there... absolutely amazing... P.S. I was amazed with the section they have about Greek history... so many things from my mother country and it was something that made me proud and sad at the same time...

One of the best museums I visited in the world. The historic part and the geographical living periods are must visit 😎. Fo museum lovers, 3 hours is not enough to see everything.

A lot of stuff to see in here. That said, it was difficult to know what to look at and in what order. In general, the "story" seems to be missing throughout the museum.

There's so much to see, don't rush your visit. It's better to enjoy some of it rather then rush past all of it.
