Museu del Disseny de Barcelona

Pl. de les Glories Catalanes , 37-38, Barcelona

The Museu del Disseny de Barcelona is the city's museum devoted to the arts of the object and to design. The new centre is the result of merging the collections of four Barcelona museums: the Museu de les Arts Decoratives (devoted to the decorative arts and industrial design), the Museu de Ceràmica (ceramics), the Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària (textile and clothing) and the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques (graphic arts). Clearly, then the common denominator amongst all these collections and between yesterday and today is the object and everything that it signifies or has signified and the contribution it has made: from its conception, creation and production to its use according to epoch and society, both at the craft and preindustrial periods and in the industrial or digital age. The new museum conserves heritage comprising more than 70,000 objects traditionally classified under the name of decorative or applied arts. These pieces, which range in date from the fourth century AD to the present, include such unique, internationally-famed collections as those of medieval fabrics, sixteenth-century Catalan enamelled glass and ceramic from Alcora, amongst others.

I expected more. The product section was the best but the other floors weren’t that great. Would benefit from more English translations because 95% of the time I didn’t know what I was looking at.

It’s a great place to visit to expand your appreciation for graphic design and the evolution of men’s a women’s clothes wear over centuries...a collection of ceramics and antique jewelry...plan to go on a Sunday, check the time frame when it’s free entrance; otherwise it’s €6/pp and still worth it!

Inspiring. Really well laid out exhibitions and explanation of the timelines. Very good effort for foreign visitors on translations. There is an emphasis on less famous Spanish designers and graphic products but it doesn't detract from the message

As a fashion graduate and my partner as a product design graduate, we really enjoyed the permanent collection of artefacts on show here. Fantastic examples of Spanish design for a very moderate price. Highly recommended for any design students visiting Barcelona!

Luckily no heavy handed security on me. Courteous staff. The museum is merely a snapshot of Catalonian designs and findings. There's actually more. For design fans, I'd visit the one in Madrid too. Good to kill an hour or two before / after the flee market or watching the lights. €6 entry, free re-entry with the same ticket within the following 6 months (first Sundays of the month too, I believe). Had to skip the café unfortunately.

Very nice museum, perfect of you have three hours and you're into art and objects. Some exhibitions are free. There is a very nice cafe inside

Nice exhibits with thought-provoking captions for design nerds. However, the security is shockingly rude, aggressive and entitled. If you go, I suggest skipping the cafe and gift shop to avoid the rude service from both the guards and the wait staff. After a great time exploring, the staff ruined my experience, and it appears I'm not the only one in the reviews to say this!

Very good museum that seems to be getting better and better. A lot of expositions are temporary, so check before you go. Although three floors of permanent collection are worth a visit too

Great place! Very cool building, fashion-related collection is wonderful. Dirt-cheap tickets. One star missing because of closed 4th floor :(

Beautiful building from both the outside and inside. Amazing infrastructures and the exhibitions are very well laid out. The entry fee is not excessive, around 6€. The surrounding area is also very interesting, with some famous landmarks nearby. Highly recommended
