Sacromonte is a traditional district in Granada, located on the hill. The houses of the whole area are built inside of the rocks, in the Valparaíso hill. The narrow Camino de Sacromonte road leads to the ethnic corner. The district has been a well-known gipsy corner since 1492.
Sacromonte is one of the most interesting and colourful parts of the city. The gipsy songs, dancings flamenco and crazy parties start with the darkness and go on till late night.
Several legends are connected with this corner. Most of them are connected with the Christian Monarchs, Muslims, black slaves and of course olives, the symbol of Granada.
An important sightseeing point in Sacromonte is Abbey and College of the Sacromonte, which is also “Holy Caves”. The college was set there by the first Christians to spread education and Christianity.
