Central Park

59th to 110th Street, New York City

Central Park is an urban park in Manhattan, New York City. Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States and one of the most filmed locations in the world. The park receives approximately 35 million visitors annually. It was established in 1857 on 315 ha land and placed it on the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage sites. Central Park is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in New York. It is bordered on the north by Central Park North, on the south by Central Park South, on the west by Central Park West, and on the east by Fifth Avenue. The Park’s size and cultural position have served as a model for many urban parks in many touristic cities in the world. The park contains several natural-looking lakes and ponds that have been created artificially, extensive walking tracks, bridle paths, two ice-skating rinks, the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, a wildlife sanctuary, a large area of natural woods, running track, and an outdoor amphitheater, the Delacorte Theater, which hosts the Shakespeare in the Park summer festivals. Indoor attractions include Belvedere Castle with its nature center, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, and the historic Carousel. In addition there are several minor grassy areas; some of them are used for informal or team sports and some set aside as quiet areas. There are also a number of enclosed playgrounds for children.

Everyone has heard of Central Park and it lives up to the hype of being an oasis of nature in the middle of the concrete jungle. Really recommend that you consider renting a bike to get through the whole thing in decent time. While there are some hills that some may find difficult to get up, it is safe to just walk your bike. Most places are biker and walker only. We rented from the bike place at the park, and they were open to negotiating prices once we said we were going elsewhere. They try to upsell you two hours, because of the suggested stops. We did 1 hour and it was perfect. While some of you may want to actually make all their stops I didn't feel they were necessary. We stopped when we found a picturesque spot, so twice. Even more important is they don't check carefully how long you use the bikes for. If you went over time it would be no big deal. Riding through Central Park on a busy hot day was an absolutely perfect way to relieve some of the stress that subway navigating and the hustle and bustle can cause. Highly recommend.

Honestly, love this park. Even in rainy weather you can always enjoy the beauty of it. Went to the Central Park Zoo with younger cousins. Was a great experience. Saw the sea lions getting fed, some penguins and tropical birds all in one place. Had a dinner at the Tavern on the Green after. All within walking distance from each other.

It's big. It's lovely. It's popular. That's what she said! And she was talking about the one and only Central Park. Definitely worth a stroll. Recommend a horse drawn carriage ride, and weather permitting, a little canoeing in the lake. I took two beautiful Eastern European women I met on a train here (pictured) after we spent the night together at Hotel Wellington, down the block, which I'd wanted to stay at because that's the name of the rich white guy whose body Chris Rock's character inhabits in "Down To Earth" (a fun remake of "Heaven Can Wait"). I can't think of a nicer way we could have enjoyed a fine morning in the city than a good ole amble through Central Park!

This so is awesome. My children enjoy it so much we spent over an hour just walking around the Tropic Zone. The birds in that area are beautiful. They loved watching the bats. The moment we walked in the peacock started preening, opening his tail feathers for attention. Great place for pictures too. They have a fantastic show with the seals during feeding times, several times a day. My girls really enjoyed watching them. The zoo is small enough to enjoy in a single visit, and enjoyable to visit more than once. Great experience.

We visited on New Year's Eve 2017, just after a light snow fell earlier that day. It was crisp and clear and there was an unusual calm over the park. We watched the fireworks at midnight, and raised a glass to the new year. The people were friendly and seemed content with casual strolls through the park late into the evening. Just after midnight, marathon runners came through and were greeted by cheers and applause. What a beautiful park to visit.

A must to visit in NYC! Walking through the park is just relaxing and you get to enjoy the beautiful nature. Have you camera all charged up to take magnificent photos. In each season, this beauty is just gorgeous. Ducks and geese are always there and flattering to get some food. And yes, there are many turtles.

Central Park is ALL that. Take a stroll through this very world famous park known for its small lakes, beautiful bridges, a castle, and even a zoo! You can very easily get lost here. My sense of direction was tricked quite easily when I decided to not use Google Maps. I simply got lost in its beauty. Watching joggers, runners, and walkers passing by is very common here, and this beautiful piece of nature is quite large. This piece of wilderness in the middle of a huge city is a welcome sight. There is a hidden gem here which is a zoo. This small zoo features a Snow Leopard, Couple of Grizzly Bears, and my favorite, a trio of California Sea Lions, one of which is a rescue sea lion from my home state of California. There is much to see here at Central Park from Horse- drawn carriages, to the beautiful trees in their Autumn/ fall colors, to small creatures. The sound of birds, honking horns all provide a kind of musical background to it all. Central Park is a very enjoyable place. There is much to see, hear, and do. Probably best enjoyed during the day, to early eve.

Central Park in the winter is simply breathtaking. I spent about an hour or so just waking the park and taking in the beautiful white setting. There are plenty of folks around to share the scenery with including your typical joggers and cyclists to musicians and dog walkers. I can't wait to come back. Perhaps a spring visit is in store.

We visited before Christmas on a Girls Trip. We took a pedicab tour through the park and had a great time. Be sure to negotiate a good price, they are very flexible. Our drivers were very knowledgeable about the park and also hilarious. They pointed out interesting spots that were used for many movies and television shows. We were able to get out and make some photos. If you’ve never been, I would recommend doing a pedicab. It’s a great way to get familiar with the park. It’s such a beautiful place in the middle of the city!
