Conservatory Garden

5th Ave & 105th St, New York City

The Conservatory Garden is the only formal garden in Central Park, New York City, and located approximately between 104th and 106th street, by Fifth Avenue. Comprising 6 acres (24,000 m2), it takes its name from a conservatory that stood on the site from 1898 to 1934. The park's head gardener used the glasshouses to harden hardwood cuttings for the park's plantings. After the conservatory was torn down, the garden was designed by Gilmore D. Clarke, landscape architect for Robert Moses, with planting plans by M. Betty Sprout; constructed and planted by WPA workers, it was opened to the public in 1937.

Our fourth trip to NYC and finally made it to the Conservatory Gardens and they didn’t disappoint despite the drizzly May weather. Beautifully kept, serenely quiet and sprinkled with little surprises at every turn. The rest rooms are so clean! Bonus points: we saw a chipmunk! Must return when the wisteria is in bloom.

The garden itself was not bad. But we had to pay for the permit which it's $100 for 30mins. And there's just green and that's it.. so plain. Not worth the money for photos shooting. If you want to walk around. It's fine.

This garden area is absolutely beautiful. A great place to have a peaceful walk among lovely flowers and fountains. In the Winter, it's still beautiful, but doesn't have the same effect as the verdent beauty of spring and summer. Enjoy a stroll and a quick lunch on the benches and listen to the birds and waterfalls as they lull you into forgetting you're 100 feet from 5th Avenue.

Very scenic area to walk...just gets very crowded around lunch time. Best times to take photos is early morning for scenery. Anytime of day is great for people watching, but especially late afternoon...lots of shade and restrooms nearby.
