Flatiron Building

175 5th Ave, New York City

The Flatiron Building, originally the Fuller Building, is a triangular 22-story steel-framed landmarked building located at 175 Fifth Avenue in the borough of Manhattan, New York City, which is considered to be a groundbreaking skyscraper. Upon completion in 1902, it was one of the tallest buildings in the city at 20 floors high and one of only two skyscrapers north of 14th Street – the other being the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower, one block east. The building sits on a triangular block formed by Fifth Avenue, Broadway, and East 22nd Street – where the building's 87-foot (27 m) back end is located – with East 23rd Street grazing the triangle's northern (uptown) peak. As with numerous other wedge-shaped buildings, the name "Flatiron" derives from its resemblance to a cast-iron clothes iron. The building, which has been called "one of the world's most iconic skyscrapers and a quintessential symbol of New York City", anchors the south (downtown) end of Madison Square and the north (uptown) end of the Ladies' Mile Historic District. The neighborhood around it is called the Flatiron District after its signature building, which has become an icon of New York City. The Flatiron Building was designated a New York City landmark in 1966, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989.

Lovely Building. Great Architecture and clever design to build a magnificent building in the space where 2 major roads merge into 1. From certain angels building looks flat and think and from others you can see the triangle wedge design. The history on why the building is there and how the road that causes the problem (only major road in midtown/Manhattan to not follow the grid system?came to exisit is very interesting and helped create this wonderful building.

Iconic and timeless! My favorite NYC landmark! It's a great meeting spot too. There's a shake-n-shack right next to it too! Get the strawberry milkshake!

Simply lovely. Historically significant to the early industrial growth to New Amsterdam . Recommend a stroll around Madison Square Park friend to all ages and happy four legged pals as well. May wish to research where the first Madison Square Garden Arena once stood before arriving here.Enjoy a few hours of floral gardens and Shake Shack burger and shakes. An afternoon of relaxation and a pay public toilet for two legged ones.

Iconic NYC building, an absolute jewel in the crown that is Manhattan. A landmark 22 story building that started the skyscraper explosion. Featured in a myriad of films and television ads. If you admire beautiful architecture, this building would be a great place to start your tour of some of the most amazing designs found in the City. With easy mass transit options, a park nearby, plenty of stores, restaurants, and the vibrant streets, your sure to enjoy the area.

On June 03 2018. Now I am riding my bicycle passing by here. I felt It is amazing quirky looking building with lots of history (was the tallest building in the world when built ) that can be seen from well up Broadway. Lots of great photography points in Madison Park Tip for taking pictures look up 5th Avenue you can see the Empire State Building! There is a lovely square/park area where you can sit and have coffee or just soak up the atmosphere! It is great if you like people watching. The offices at the narrow end are at a premium to occupy! You are allowed to use a full sized tripod in the centre pedestrian island as long as it's not getting in anyone's way. Try and take your photos early in the morning or later in the afternoon to get the building lit on one side only to add a bit more interest.

My favourite area in NYC. Love looking at the iconic Flat Iron! Not as busy as other areas of the city. A couple of great places nearby for coffee, breakfast etc plus Madison Square Park across the road to relax.

This is another piece of gem in terms of architecture. Looks good, however not that glamorous as it’s appeared in movies / commercial. The area is pretty hip and happening with a lot of restaurants and shops. Good for hanging out with cool Friends
