Ground Zero Museum Workshop

420 W 14th St, New York City

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop is located in the historic Meatpacking District of New York City on West 14th Street. The Workshop opened September 7, 2005. Many people came together to help create the most realistic account of the Ground Zero “Recovery Period” ever created. Gary Marlon Suson was the director and founder. He was hired as a photographer to work on the twin towers after the tragedy and collected all the realistic information and photos connected with the World Trade center. Ground Zero Museum Workshop brings all the aspects of the “Recovery Period” to life in images, artifacts and through the breathtaking stories behind them in 4 languages: English, Italian, Spanish and French. Adding to the stories, the tech crews were able to find rare video from Ground Zero and lift the audio sound effects off that video and use them as background for our recorded audio stories.

Gary, the place you have created for the world to see is unbelievable! I shed many tears while in your Musuem, it’s beautiful to see what you have done for the victims of 9/11. They will never be forgotten and your images will forever be in my mind. I am glad to say I meet you personally, your a humble kind hearted man that deserves every word in this review. I highly recommend anyone coming to the NYC to get down to this place and experience it! Your mind will be blown, a 5 star recommendation is not enough. Make sure you view this place before the memorial as well, it puts the memorial in much better perspective. Cheers, Louise from Sydney, Australia.

Absolutely beautiful! I would allow 3-4 hours to walk through the Museum. Easy 5+ hour Day just at WTC.

I found this museum online and figured that my friends and I could make a pit stop after visiting the high line and Plunge Roof top. This little museum is a must if you are in the area.

This place is small and tucked out of sight on the second floor of a multi-use building. But if you are on a trip to NYC with young kids, and have been marching thru gigantic museums you will appreciate this place. It is a small space filled with photos and artifacts of the 9/11 clean up and recovery effort. It is moving and informative, but spares us the horrors of the actual event. The audio tour is very interesting and easy for adults and kids alike.

Small, intimate museum. Amazing photos that capture that day and the resulting recovery along with artifacts that you can touch.

I don't quite have words to describe how moving my experience at the ground zero museum was. All I'm going to say is that it should be at the top of your list!

Excellent museum of unique photographs and salvaged artefacts with very informative audio tour giving detailed context to the exhibits. Additional background given by friendly and knowledgable tour guide. Sometimes moving, sometimes uplifting, this museum gives a unique perspective on one of the most significant human disasters of modern times, presented in a respectful, dignified and modest manor throughout. Two hours well spent.
