Madison Square Garden

4 Penn Plaza, New York City

4.5

Madison Square Garden, often called "MSG" or simply "The Garden", is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the New York City. It is formed by the intersection of 5th Avenue and Broadway at 23rd Street in Manhattan. It was named after James Madison, fourth President of the United States. The Garden is used for professional basketball and ice hockey, as well as boxing, concerts, ice shows, circuses, professional wrestling and other forms of sports and entertainment. It is close to other midtown Manhattan landmarks, including the Empire State Building, Koreatown, and Macy's at Herald Square. It is home to the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association. The Garden opened on February 11, 1968, and is the oldest major sporting facility in the New York metropolitan area. It is the oldest arena in the National Hockey League and the second-oldest arena in the National Basketball Association. Madison Square Garden hosts approximately 320 events a year. Many of boxing's biggest fights were held at Madison Square Garden. Madison Square Garden hosts also more high-profile concert events than any other venue in New York City; Led Zeppelin, Madonna and John Lennon had concerts in Madison.

Went there to see the Knick's play The Spurs. It's a fairly expensive place to watch a game, but it's New York! Seats were good, each level have TV screens. The scoreboard is massive so there is no issue with missing any of the action. Staff are good, food is more than reasonable, the fans are a bit noisy, but I wouldn't want it by other way, it was good to see the locals get behind their team (even though I'm a Spurs fan) entry was easy & within 5 minutes after the event finished we were already outside. I'm so glad I have been to see an event at this world famous sporting theatre

The arena still lives up to its hype. Any sports event here is amplified by the design and atmosphere. I love it at MSG. Even the food vendors have been upgraded over the past few years. Amazing place!

Great seats, great concert, easy to get in , and the staff was very accommodating to help us fix an issue. Bent over backwards to help my handicapped husband. Lots of variety on food choices. Little pricey for concessions .. but they all are.

Great venue to see sports, concerts, and other acts. Plenty of food options throughout all levels. All seats seem to be great for viewing the court, ice rink, and stage. The acoustics are very good. The negative is getting out after a performance.

The best night of my life happened in this arena. The most happy environment, and insane energy. I was there June 21st, 2018 to see “Harry Styles Live On Tour”. I had the greatest time. Definitely the time of my life. Thank you msg, and of course, thank you harry styles ❤️ all my love. xx

Went for a concert in July, and had a great time - awesome event staff, and the stadium itself was extremely impressive (smoke machines gave a nice atmosphere). Food and drink were very pricey, but that was to be expected. Will happily go again at the next opportunity.

Whilst in NYC.. my wife and son told me that they had bought tickets to see 30 seconds to mars... I thought how the hell do we get there and navigate the place... The answer simple! Plenty of staff around who where all willing to help, entry was even more simple, we where informed on the booking that rucksacks/bags where to be discouraged.. Due to a bag scan/search. Good tip as this seen us through very quick and the area was well sign posted and food kiosk at every entry point... Clean tidy place and security tight but not rude(obnoxious) for a change...

I love MSG! We are there often for Rangers games and concerts. It's so easy to take the train in and just walk upstairs into the venue. Weather is a none issue, you literally never need to go outside (but of course you should!). Recent upgrades at the venue are very nice. New bathrooms, new seats, new concessions, new screens. I honestly cannot count how many times I've been there over the years, SO MANY TIMES! I absolutely love Madison Square Garden! Note: Food and drink are VERY expensive inside the venue. I bought a beer upon arrival, $14! A water and Dippin Dots, $12! Needless to say, we rarely visit concession.

Have seen many shows here over the years. Famous stadium that hosts many international acts. Food is very expensive. Bathrooms are well lit and clean. There are elevators and escalators on every floor for older or disabled attendees. Signs are visible everywhere. There are handrails to hold onto while accessing the seated levels. Cushioned seats are comfortable. Unfortunately, seated rows are very narrow. Seated areas are well lit. There are televisions in upper levels so that patrons can see the action on stage.

Saw a concert at MSG this week. Seats were good, sound was great. Security slows things down a lot on the way in, but that's true everywhere nowadays. A little slow and crowded on the way out, but nothing compared to leaving the parking lot after a game at Yankee stadium. Speaking of parking, very cool taking the LIRR directly to the concert; no getting stuck in traffic, searching for parking spots or paying the equivalent of a month's car loan payment to park in a lot. And my wife was able to go to the bathroom during the intermission between the groups and, despite the long line, make it back before the show resumed. Amazing! So the garden is a pretty good place to check out a concert/game/event.

I don’t like the place. It gets all the big concerts and all the terrible basketball you want to watch the Knicks play. It’s too big and I have major issues with how its events are ticketed!

It’s OK, but even with the major renovations a couple of years ago, it’s a 40+ year old arena. Corridors are narrow, concession stands always crowded. Location at Penn Station can’t be beat.
